A visiting Indian team combined with some local talent played a T20 match against Mississauga Ramblers at Iceland ground. The two prominent names in the visiting team were former India cricketer Joginder Sharma and a first class player Shafiq Khan. Both these players have recently retired from 1st class cricket and used to represent Haryana in Ranji Trophy, 1st class tournament in India. The visiting team beat Mississauga Ramblers by 6 wickets. Batting first Ramblers made 132 off 18 overs and visiting team chased it down in last over.
Joginder Sharma is most famously known for his last over heroics in the Inaugural world T20 final in 2007 against arch rivals Pakistan.
Both the cricketers were very impressed with the Iceland ground and the pitch. They were not expecting to see such a ground and level of cricket in Canada and were very impressed with the facilities at Iceland ground. In Joginder’s words “There are only few things to be done at this ground and it will be equivalent to an international ground”. These words come as a big boost for us as we are a volunteer run organisation and our volunteers work relentlessly to keep this club going. We aim to make this facility a world class facility in years to come. Pitch work is managed and overseen by former Canadian international cricketer Sandeep Jyoti, ably supported by Sunil D’souza.
Attached are the interviews from the two visiting cricketers.
